The Technical College in Beckum, Germany, has been educating technicians since 1952. The course content available to the students covers a wide range of topics, among these courses on CAD and CAM processing in the woodworking industry. At the request of the college, our Sales Representative Hermann Hasebrink visited the college and held a presentation in front of approximately 25 students who are enrolled in a wood technician program. The presentation gave the students an overall view about the range of functions Compass Software offers, as well as our company history. Furthermore, the students had the chance to become more familiar with our CAD program for staircase design, as well as our CAM programs for staircase, window, and timber construction. Additional topics included a comparison of production techniques from before, today and in the age of Industry 4.0, as well as visions and projections for the future of the industry. At the end of the presentation, the students had the chance to experience augmented reality with the Microsoft HoloLens. The AR glasses project virtual staircases into the real environment. Presently, the tool is mostly used as a sales tool, but will find applications in production in the future. We enjoyed the visit at the technical college in Beckum very much and are happy to partner with education institutions of any kind in the future.
